Contractors say Xe provided forbidden weapons

(MILITARY TIMES)   RALEIGH, N.C. — Two contractors who worked under the security firm formerly known as Blackwater say the company issued weapons to contractors in Afghanistan despite the military prohibiting workers from carrying guns.

Justin Cannon and Steven McClain said Thursday they frequently asked superiors why the company distributed weapons without U.S. military authorization. The two were involved in a shooting earlier this month that killed an Afghan and injured two others.

Cannon said they were told to ignore the weapons prohibitions.

Blackwater, now known as Xe, has said the men were fired for violating their contract. The company had no immediate comment on their former workers’ accusations.

An attorney for the men said he thinks the company is trying to scapegoat them.
