Austin cop suspended for shooting fellow officer in his feet
(WE ARE AUSTIN) An Austin police officer has been suspended for three days for shooting a fellow officer in an accident last year.
It happened during a late night disturbance call Dec. 31 at a South Austin apartment.
When officers arrived at the apartment they found blood on the doorway, and forced their way into the apartment after a supervisor instructed them to check to see if anyone was hurt.
No one was inside the apartment, and as they searched inside Officer Melvin Moreno stood on a table to check the attic craw space using his pistol mounted flashlight, that’s when he fell and hit the ground, discharging his duty weapon and striking another officer in the tops of both feet.
The injured officer was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
According to a disciplinary memo, Moreno will be suspended for three days starting March 29.
