Predator crashes in Afghanistan
(MILITARY TIMES) A remote-controlled MQ-1 Predator crashed on a night patrol over southern Afghanistan, Air Forces Central Command said.
Enemy fire did not cause the 1 a.m. Jan. 15 crash, according to the command.
Investigators will gather evidence from the crash site to try to determine what brought down the surveillance plane.
Since 1997, the Air Force has lost 58 Predators to crashes. Most of the recent accidents were the result of electrical or mechanical malfunctions.
