Police Major gets his gun stolen
Petersburg police major has received a reprimand after his teenaged grandson stole it from his car.
Investigators say major Donnie Williams’ 16-year-old grandson took the gun from a computer bag while he was riding in a car with his grandfather on June 13th. Less then a week later the gun was recovered during an arrest. Fingerprints on the weapon led back to Williams’ grandson who told detectives he sold the loaded gun for $250 two days after he stole it.
A review board found that the 31-year veteran violated regulations by not caring for his department-issued equipment and by not preventing its loss or theft.
