Officer fired for demanding free ice cream

(WPTV 5)   DELRAY BEACH, FL — A Delray Beach police officer was fired for reportedly taking free ice cream.

City officials say Michael Brown was fired Friday, based on Police Chief Tony Strianese’s recommendation.

Internal affairs documents show that Brown asked a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop employee to serve him after the store closed for the day on April 20. The employee gave Brown two scoops, but the officer did not pay for the ice cream. He then shared it with his girlfriend outside the shop.

Documents show that Brown previously failed to pay for a meal at IHOP, but another officer went back and settled the bill.

Brown had been with the department since 2007
