Miami Beach PD to take part in NLE 2009
(MIAMI HERALD) Miami Beach will have a disaster on its hands Wednesday.
But don’t be alarmed. It’s just a drill.
The Miami Beach police and fire departments, as well as Mount Sinai Medical Center, will be tested Wednsday morning for their response to a mock terrorist attack.
The drill is part of a regional exercise called Operation Cassandra, which will put other departments throughout Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward and Palm Beach counties to the test with similar scenarios.
From Marathon to West Palm Beach, expect to see law enforcement, fire rescue and medical personnel out in force, probably between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The exact time and place of the Miami Beach drill will take place is still being kept hush-hush, but Beach police have announced the following areas will be affected:
• Hebrew Academy, 2400 Pinetree Dr.
• Fana Holtz High School, 2425 Pinetree Dr.
• 2400 block of Pinetree Drive
• 2400 block of Flamingo Place
• 24th Place between Pinetree Drive and Flamingo Drive
• 25th Street between Pinetree Drive and Flamingo Drive
Residents in the affected areas will be required to present identification to access their homes. Parents will be allowed to drop off their children at the Miami Beach Scott Rakow Youth Center, according to a police statement.
The Hebrew Academy and Fana Holtz High School will be closed, and Miami Beach police note that no students will be involved in the mock attack.
