Mass Graves Outside of Chicago

(DAILY MAIL)   Third world America: Bodies driven to a pauper’s burial in a U-Haul as tough economic times lead to more mass gravesBy Daily Mail Reporter

It’s a practice more closely associated with third world countries, but in bleak times in a Chicago-area suburb, 30 people were buried in a mass grave on Wednesday.

The pauper’s burial section at Homewood Memorial Gardens was established for those who could not afford to pay for a burial plot.

And it is a problem that’s sweeping America as tough economic times have led to an increase in the number of indigent burials the morgue must perform.

No mourners were present for the burial at the cemetery, which lies 25 miles south west of Chicago.

The gruesome discovery of the pauper’s burial section at Homewood was made last year, sparking a call for more strict federal regulations for cemeteries.

Sheriff’s officials had found caskets stacked on top of one another – some buried eight at a time – at Homewood.

And the morgue has been accused of missing markers and poor record keeping.

But coroners have said the practice is shared in other cities and states across the U.S.

Tony Cox, the legislative chairman and former president of the Illinois Coroners and Medical Examiners Association, earlier told the Chicago Sun Times other cities, including New York, follow similar mass burial procedures for those with limited options.

New York City Department of Corrections spokesman Stephen Morello referred to a burial site in Hart Island, New York, where 800,000 bodies lie.
Officials there, he said, follow the same procedure – stacking coffins with inmates’ remains three deep.

Mr Morello said stillborn babies and children are always buried in individual caskets. Those, too, are stacked on top of one another.

The National Funeral Directors Association has called the discovery at Homewood ‘troubling’, and called for more federal regulation over cemeteries.

Mr Cox, who also serves as the coroner in Downstate Gallatin County, said his office has avoided problems allegedly happening in Homewood.
He said cremation has also become more favoured in many cities and states, because it is less costly than a traditional burial.

  • This is not America anymore. It’s a hollow shell of a once great nation.

  • Just a start..FEMA in past years, was looking for more grounds.

  • This is what the US has come to. It has such disregard for human life and does this kind of stuff. Can you blame people around the world for their disgust at what happened here? A central banking mafia system literally loots the nation in front of everyone and they are still committing total fraud, yet not a one of ’em goes to jail. Trillions for the few parasites at the top and mass graves for the many at the bottom. Truly a disgrace. Most people I know, don’t give a damn, though.

  • There is absolutely nothing new to this burial practice! Go to Potter’s Field. Nobody has a name there and it’s been there for ages! Do people realize how many people die every day, alone? No loved ones or anybody, for that matter, to arrange the over priced funeral arrangements? Get real people, this sort of thing is reality. It can cost more than a nice car for someone to be modestly interred! Whose going to pay for these individuals to be buried in single plots with a marker? Nobody, that’s who!

  • You’d think they could at least bury them a little deeper. Then there’s always Soylent Green

  • In 200 years when people dig up these mass graves will they refer to this time as the ‘American Holocaust’?
All this is so unnecessary, one simple change, END THE FED could reverse this all and put us back on a quick road to recovery of economical proportions but more importantly, the human spirit. Humans need the freedom to solve their own local problems and we have the means and technology to do so.
Government needs to do it’s limited job, downsize and let people create their own solutions, you would be amazed. In history the freest of times produced great human advancements, follow the money, when it was not centrally controlled but created by governments and spent freely into society.

  • The state of Illinois no longer pays for indigent funerals; it is up to the counties now. Since our state is bankrupt, few options are available. Just wait until the government raids pension funds to pay its bills. Oh wait, they are.

  • Seems odd that someone would be there taking pictures of this. If this is something they were trying to “get away with” why did they take a bunch of pictures? lol. Also, what’s up with how shallow the grave is? At the very least they could have made sure they weren’t going to pop up poltergeist style.
