Former Miami-Dade police officer gets 2 years for role in drug sale
(MIAMI HERALD) A former Miami-Dade police officer has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting he provided protection for the sale of ecstasy while on duty, federal authorities said.
Jorge Delgado, 31, pleaded guilty in July to a charge of aiding and abetting an attempt to possess ecstasy with intent to distribute.
Delgado, sentenced Thursday in Miami federal court, was assigned to uniformed road patrol at the time of the offense in February.
The three-year veteran used his marked police car to protect the delivery of what was represented to be a shipment of ecstasy, according to court records. In reality, the purported drug deal was staged by undercover agents and Delgado was to be paid $2,500 in cash for his protection.
