  Actually, there are very few, if any, soldiers that were left behind after the Vietnam War. There is one thing that isn’t mentioned. Many American soldiers, and possibly soldiers from other countries, picked up a contagious venereal disease while in Vietnam. They were not permitted to come back into the United States. Instead, they were put on an unchartered island in the Pacific, and listed as POW/MIA. I know this for a fact because I was in the Air Force stationed in Alaska at the time of the Vietnam conflict. At that time Alaska was considered overseas and in the Vietnam theater. I received many reports from ships like the U.S.S. Jackson, U.S.S. Syracuse, and other ships taking military personal to a place where I would just receive coordinates. Latitude and Longitude. Vietnam has thousands of venereal diseases; and only two, Syphilis and Gonorrhea are curable. We have received all of our POW/MIA’s from Vietnam, except for those soldiers that wanted to stay there.
