Derren Brown, the illusionist, makes his audience stick to their chairs

(TELEGRAPH)   The star – who last week seemed to have picked the winning National Lottery numbers – showed a short film on his Channel 4 television show.

Viewers were told to sit back in their chair with their feet flat on the floor and their hands on their legs. They were also instructed to ”imagine a circle” around their head.

Brown said the stunt would work if people were open to it.

Afterwards, several audience members, who watched the film on a giant screen, said they could not stand up.

And a series of viewers called the show telling of their ”bizarre” feelings of being ”stuck”.

”I can’t feel my legs,” said one audience member.

Another said: ”It’s just very bizarre. I’m trying hard to get up but I can’t.”

One viewer said: ”I feel like the bottom of my back is wielded to my sofa.”

Brown, who assured the trick had no side effects, then played a ”clearing tone” that he said would ”free” those left stricken.

He said the stunt worked through suggestion.

Earlier, he was shown transformed into a beggar in an attempt to influence how much people donated.

Brown, who placed subliminal messages around a shopping centre, managed to persuade passers-by to donate £350 in less than an hour.

One man also gave Brown his shoes.

All the money Brown collected was donated to homeless charity Shelter.

As a finale to his series, Brown is hoping to make a viewer win a fortune at a casino by gambling on a roulette wheel.
