Deputy gets 270 days for sex with teen Explorer
(AP) A Southern California sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to 270 days in jail for having sex with an underage teen Explorer.
Anthony Benjamin entered no contest pleas last month to two felony charges of oral copulation on a minor. If convicted at trial, the San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy could have been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
Besides jail time, Benjamin was ordered Tuesday to register as a sex offender.
The Victorville Daily Press ( http://bit.ly/qKbYIy) says the 31-year-old Victorville station deputy had sex with the 17-year-old girl during ride-alongs in the Explorer program. The married father of two has been on paid administrative leave since his arrest.
The Explorer program gives field experience to young adults interested in law enforcement careers.
