Deputy charged with assaulting inmate
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a Broward County detention deputy has been charged with assaulting an inmate.
The sheriff’s office reports that 37-year-old Gladys Dauphin was charged Wednesday for leaving a disrespectful inmate bleeding in his cell after hitting him with her radio in February.
The inmate suffered lacerations to the left upper side of his head and received five staples to close his wounds at the jail infirmary. Officials say Dauphin logged the inmate’s injury as a fall, but other deputies reported that Dauphin had hit him.
Charges against Dauphin include aggravated battery, official misconduct and filing a false report. She was released on $6,100 bail.
