Cops Taser Pregnant Woman 3 Times Over Driving Violation

(Mary Fischer)   When I heard about three police offers who wound up using a taser on a pregnant woman in Seattle, my first thought was that the story was some kind of a joke. Cops tasering a pregnant woman? In some sort of attempt to subdue her? For real?! You gotta be kidding me.

Apparently these three officers became enraged when they pulled Malaika Brooks over for a moving violation while driving her 11-year-old son to school, and she refused to sign the ticket they gave her because she didn’t want to admit being guilty when she didn’t feel she’d done anything wrong. But in the state of Washington, it’s a crime to refuse to sign a ticket — so they proceeded to arrest her. When Malaika then refused to get out of her car because she was in her last trimester of pregnancy, the cops must have felt really threatened — because that’s when they tased her on her leg, arm, and neck.

And that’s where this case gets even crazier. Not only was she convicted for not signing the ticket, but after suing the officers because of pain and scars the taser left behind — the circuit court ruled in their favor! But apparently getting away with using a stun gun on a preggo wasn’t enough for these guys, because now they’ve appealed their case to the Supreme Court in the hopes of getting a final ruling that they were not in the wrong by tasing Brooks. (Whaaattt?)

Who exactly do these guys think they are? First they use a stun gun on a woman who was carrying a child in her womb, and then after being told it was ok, they want additional justification for their actions?

It sounds to me like this has much more to do with these officers’ egos than with whether or not using the taser was right or wrong. Honestly, were they really that afraid of this woman making a run for it and getting away from them? I was lucky if I could make it up the stairs in my house during my last trimester, and there’s definitely no way I could’ve outrun a cop. Don’t these men realize that by shedding more light on the incident, they are only making themselves look like a bunch of wusses?

I guess we can only hope that the Supreme Court finds their appeal as laughable as most people will. They had their day in court already, and it’s time to let it go.

Do you think these cops had any other choice but to taser Malaika Brooks?

This is just so messed up, sad too I mean come on the women was pregnant. I am sure that there was SOMETHING ELSE they could have done. Maybe a video camera on the road at the time should be looked at too I mean she would not sign for a reason mostly.

I personally think they should lose their jobs because that just cant be professional and should not be deemed Humane or ethical.

  3. James says:

After hundreds of people have died from being tasered, these weapons are now finally being recognized as lethal weapons.

    Have a peek at this…

Lethal force is an accepted response for refusing to sign a ticket or not obeying any order from police? Does anyone out there really believe this is a reasonable response to a non-threatening situation?

Obviously, something else is going on here.

Like some people who take marshall arts lessons from second rate instructors, some people are not fit to study for and become police or marshall arts users.

Sadly, if they’d simply killed her outright they would probably stand a better chance at getting away with such bad behaviour. Luckily she survived, and god willing the psychos will never see the end of this as long as they live.

I wonder how long it will be until groups of citizens decide to form their own anti police brutality posses.. 3 to 5 armed men perhaps, to dispense vigilante style justice to these cowards who wear uniforms. I don’t think it will be too long before something like this happens. Not that I would condone violence, I just can imagine people are going to say enough, and fight back.

  9. Susan says:

If I’m not mistaken, after tasering this woman, the cops pulled her out of her car and placed her on the street on her stomach.

  10. james says:

It’s stories like this that will awaken people to the fact that the greatest threat they face is the thug in uniform. Very soon, the public will become saturated with these stories and they will begin to defend themselves. In some cases they may even use the Bush Doctrine of a preemptive strike. You know, like a war for humanitarian intervention. Very soon the battle will be joined not because the citizens want it but because they have been poked by a stick for far too long. This is what the PTB want of course. They have this all planned out. But any military historian, any student of strategy will tell you that the plan of battle NEVER survives first contact with the enemy. So ok you thugs in uniform, you keep on poking away. Soon people will have had enough, then god help us all. You have been asking for this for a long time, no one can foresee what you will get for all your asking. Unfortunately for all of us it will be horrible and spread. So you thugs in uniform laugh today, soon you’ll be squealing and pissing yourselves inside your Kevlar fun suits. Me, I’ve left the field of battle. There are no threats from me, only a peek ahead at where the trends are leading us.

This is what you are fighting for in Iraq, I think Americans are the most insane hypo-killers in world history. You are lost.

  12. Jolly Roger says:

The worst part of this story is that it happens every week. This is NOT just an example of a few rogue cops; this kind of behavior is so widespread that’s it’s obviously become part of their training and official policy, and since every court in the land seems to applaud the behavior, the only options we’ve been left with are to either submit to being treated as sub-human slaves, or shoot back.

  13. m_astera says:

Washington State has had a reputation as a corrupt police state since the 1960s at least. What is more telling to me is that the courts found in the cops favor. The courts are fully as corrupt as the police who are their handmaidens.

  14. m_astera says:

BTW, like James above, I left the field of battle, the USA, five years ago because I could no longer stomach being a part of a country whose people allowed this sort of thing without a murmur. If and when the people decide they have been demeaned and abused enough to fight back, I have said I will return. But I don’t expect any fight out of them anytime soon.

I think the Militia is the answer. Armed citizen militia patrols in every neighborhood in every city across the country.

It seems the good cops of Seattle are too spineless to handle their bad cops.I do believe the Seattle police think that they are completely protected.
Do remember that to eat these cops have to buy groceries or go to the restaurant-where regular citizens work. Their cable gets repaired by regular citizens. They go to sports events-with regular citizens.
To drive their cars while off duty they need to get gas somewhere, usually at gas stations where regular citizens work. They have to have their cars fixed by mechanics, mechanics being those regular citizens. They have to get their garbage collected by regular citizens.
Regular citizens enable every single thing the cops do. Even to the janitors, clerks, and dispatchers at the police station-all regular citizens.
Citizens-stop enabling the cops. You know what to do. This has been done several times before and rioting is not necessary.
A cornered dog will bite. Seattle police are outnumbered. Remember that. Stealth mode people. Handle your issues with the police quietly.

Give her a dam ticket that she don’t need to sign, that states she didn’t sign the first dam ticket. And move on your marry fricken way. Go work on that dam investigation that actually harmed somebody with in their community. Rather then make a simple mistake into a major court case now!!!!!!!!

  22. notsoanon says:

Story is missing the cops’ names.

  23. Frank H. says:

Looks like both parties were ridiculous. There is no excuse for the force used, and in truth really there was no reason to even pull the lady out of her car. However, there was also no reason to not sign the ticket. In WA state it is written very plainly on the ticket that signing it is not an admission of guilt. There is even a box you can mark on the ticket that states "I did not commit this offense". When you sign a ticket in the state of WA you are simply confirming that the cop gave you a ticket. Otherwise they could just write tickets on a whim with no verification that they were anywhere near the subject.

Of course, like I said, that is simply no justification for the actions taken by the police.

  24. mstra says:

Frank H, what signing the ticket does is commit you to appearing in court for whatever BS the ticket was written for, which means you recognize and agree to abide by the code violation you were ticketed for. Making a law that says you have to sign the ticket just adds to the insult and injury.

  25. Dusty says:

Vigilant Citizens are needed across this land … a segment of the population is increasingly "out of control", continually protected, consistently "justified" in their actions and suffer absolutely no consequences for their actions. Citizens MUST, begin holding those accountable for their actions, just as we are held accountable for ours.

"This is what you are fighting for in Iraq, I think Americans are the most insane hypo-killers in world history. You are lost."

Please, oh please, do not group us all together in that description. Some of us absolutely disagree with a lot of the things that the US is responsible for, but we have no choice but to be here :-(

My boyfriend was just recently talking about how a lot of people in the U.S. will say "we" instead of "U.S." or "the government" or whatever. In reality though, "we" (as in "he and I") have done nothing wrong, so shouldn’t say things like, "we invade other countries for bull crap reasons." It would be more like, "The military invades other countries…"

  28. Tom says:

    Says iy all really.
"because now they’ve appealed their case to the Supreme Court in the hopes of getting a final ruling that they were not in the wrong by tasing Brooks."

They need someone else to tell them the difference bettween right and wrong and that person will tell them that wrong is right.
These are supposed to be grown men and women. When you join the police in the US do they lobotamise you first, or do they just empoly thugs?

  29. Bill says:

We now have the criminally insane out of the institutions and into police uniforms!

  30. Stevo says:

Why do we even need cops? I could understand some detectives to investigate crimes. Other wise cop are just there to scrap you up after the fact or write tickets for their stock holders.

  31. CONOR says:

the husband or brothers of this woman should find out where these scumbag cowards live, then catch them one by one and beat the crap out of them. may be knock a few teeth out of their head. that is what needs to be done in my opinion. i am sick of cops abusing their power. when the justice gives no justice its time we sought it ourselves.

  32. mstra says:

Conor- If the police were an honorable institution, these cops’ fellow "officers" would have already knocked out a few teeth and drummed them out of the force.

Imagine what even many hard-core criminal prisoners would do to one of their own who tasered a pregnant woman 3 times and then dragged her out of her car, handcuffed her, and made her lie on the pavement. Obviously the police force has no honor whatsoever. Scum and thugs.

  33. Louis says:

Come on guys. The cops are there to protect our constitutional rights. American’s are becoming insolent! Since when do we have the right not to sign a document, ticket, or paper. The constitution clearly says that any government official in any capacity has the right to force us to sing any paper for our own benefit. That benefit includes papers to prove our own guilt in order for the state to take our funds for the betterment of society. Come on! Give the government and the cops a brake. They know the constitution and you don’t.

  34. Chloe says:

Take a look at Jeffrey Grupp’s article (written in 2009) re the ‘fake NWO’.
Sorry I can’t link to it – just google ‘Jeffrey Grupp fake NWO’ and you’ll find it.

Grupp argues that the local police will come to be seen as a brutal force, which cannot continue, leading for a call for a – wait for it – world police force to replace them.

Meanwhile, the police are being trained to see the publice as potential terrorists, rioters, etc.

Vigilante ‘justice’ against the police isn’t the answer. The police themselves are going to have to stop the bad/psychopathic cops.

There’s going to have to be far more accountability, and a return to the idea that the police are a PART of the community, and there to protect the innocent and vulnerable; not abuse them. Common sense, decency and responsibility. And a pride in the job. Maybe we should start petitioning the various police stations for just that. Vigilante groups, on the other hand, may just widen the divide ‘they’ want, between the police and the public.

  35. Dusty says:

The three Seattle police officers involved in the case are:

    Steven L. Daman

    Donald M. Jones

    Juan M. Ornelas.

Charge these bastards with attempted murder, that seems to be all they understand!

  37. Romeo Sirate says:

Actually it could have been a lot worst. These idiots could’ve also used their weapons instead of the stun gun. This is unbelievable, they should hang these police officers and take away their pension, now they are probably going to get even bolder.

  38. Little Bright Feather says:

Cops all need to be disarmed – THEY ARE THE DANGEROUS ONES as they run around with loaded guns just waiting to shot anyone they see ! And those tasers are deadly ! Cops are not Sheriffs, who belong to the people are are SUPPOSE TO DEFEND THE PEOPLE FROM THE FEDS, and cops are Feds – created by DC in 1863 by Lincoln ! The Sheriff is never suppose to work with or for the Feds – they are oathed to keep Feds OUT of their counties and away from their people. THAT is their DUTY ! Sheriff’s are pre-Constitution. They do not answer to DC or the state – only to the people. It’s time THEY do their DUTY ! They have the most power in their counties over any other entity including courts !
If this baby has brain problems the cops need to be sued big time ! They may have scrambled the baby’s brain ! They only feed their own ego’s thinking they are gods, and don’t care what damage they do ! Cops are armed terrorists !

  39. Cyborg says:

She should have signed the ticket.
Who does not know that signing a traffic ticket is only a "promise to appear" and not an admission of guilt?
She wanted a free pass because she was pregnant. The law shouldn’t apply to pregnant women?
She should also be charged with endangering the unborn child for this dumb-ass stunt.

  40. MissK says:

@Cyborg.. Seriously? It is not like this woman was putting ANYONE or HERSELF in danger.. THIS IS THE ONLY time any type of "FORCE" by an officer should be used…. No matter if she didn’t sign the ticket. First off when is NOT signing a traffic violation ticket an arrestable offense to begin with? This just shows how much of a police state we DO in fact live in.. WE ARE NOT FREE. WE ARE SLAVES!!!

  41. Daryl says:

I got Tazzed in Tacoma and locked in Jail for standing on a sidewalk when the Bomb squad was on the other side of the street. There where many people all around. Even with their kids but since I was a Big guy the officers got more of a Power Rush to Taze me and not say a word to any of the Ladies with their kids. After 2 days in jail they just opened the door and said go home. No charges filed. I did nothing wrong!

  42. RetSquid says:

There are some seriously ignorant people posting here. Not to mention the fact that the story says signing a ticket is an admission of guilt. When has THAT ever been correct?

  43. Heartland Patriot says:

@george Archers: Its got NOTHING to do with veterans, so take that little political jab and stuff it. It has EVERYTHING to do with poor leadership. Those cops were WRONG to taser a pregnant woman for a moving violation ticket issue. But whatever beef you have with veterans makes you sound like a MORON by injecting it into this story.

  44. Arizona says:

THE trial over, they should have shot the stupid bitch in the head, and my guest is next time they will, just keep voting all these stupid whores into office in every town and state.soon you’ll have to make a choice take, their right to vote away or just shoot them in the head when they start complaining about anything. ALL you suck asses out there, HOWS letting these whores vote working out for your boys?? OH,there all in prison and can’t vote or own a gun anymore HUH??? MAN you must really be proud of them huh???YOUR WHOLE planet has gone in the shitter since you gave them the right to vote, and now they announced they coming to take your guns,HOW can you fagots call your selves MEN?????????????

  45. john says:

99% of ALL cops think who they are…they all suck!!

  46. Jeremy Weller says:

Ok.. first, I am a military police officer that has been tazed before and it does really suck, but there are no mental or physical scars left from being tazed. However, this is absolutely insane that these officers felt the need to taze a women who was that pregnant. I am currently a reservist for the Air Force and cannot seem to find a local police department that will hire me to be a civilian officer, while they hire morons like this to serve and protect. It almost makes me feel a little embarrassed that these retards can get hired while I cannot. Oh well.

  47. kc says:

My brother had too much to drink at a wine festival and got into it with his wife (who is psych when she is sober) and was arrested. 2 cops accompanied him in the back of the van and he tried to start up a conversation with them and he said if you knew me I’m really a nice guy. And one of the cops slugger him in the face and gold him to shut up. There wasn’t a thing my brother could have done… no proof. Its not fair they can get away with stuff like this. Certainly not all cops are bad but too many of them are.

  48. POPEYE says:

You are probably too smart. They don’t like to hire smart people. For real. There are cases where people sued over it. You can look it up here on FJ.

  49. Greg8 says:

They should pulled her from the vehicle like any other non-compliant person and, if necessary, put her on the ground and arrested her for the mentioned violations. She’s the one endangering her child by her own behavior. What’s next: I’m old, or crippled, or sick so I can break the law and the cops can’t do anything.

  50. Morgan says:

Shite-suckin’ bottom feeders are these erroneously named peace officers. How low can you go? Apparently, there’s no limit.
